A 60-Minute Trajectory Consultation for Understanding Life After Traumatic Brain Injury
Overview
When someone you love sustains a traumatic brain injury, one question quickly rises above all the others:
What does this mean for their future?
How might this injury shape their health, education, relationships, career, family planning, or quality of life? Which changes should you expect? Which deserve closer attention? What questions should you be asking now that may matter years or even decades from today?
This consultation is meant to help answer those questions.
Supporting someone living with traumatic brain injury means witnessing physiological changes that unfold across years or decades, often without a clear explanation of how they relate to one another or to the original injury.
Changes in behavior, cognition, emotion, communication, fatigue, and daily function may evolve over time in ways that are difficult to organize into a coherent understanding of what your loved one is experiencing.
This consultation is designed to help you examine your loved one's history through a long-term physiological lens to better understand how traumatic brain injury may influence health across the lifespan.
The goal is to help you better understand your loved one's unique trajectory, recognize meaningful physiological patterns as they emerge, anticipate future health considerations, and make more informed decisions throughout every stage of life after traumatic brain injury.
Areas of Consultation
Understanding the Survivor's Journey
Review of the injury history, symptom progression, major life events, caregiving experiences, and the questions you hope to better understand.
Physiological Pattern Recognition
Identification of physiological relationships, longitudinal patterns, and systems interactions that may help organize seemingly unrelated experiences into a more coherent understanding of your loved one's physiology.
Lifespan & Whole-Body Physiology
Discussion of how traumatic brain injury may influence multiple biological systems across time, including autonomic function, hormones, sleep, cardiovascular health, cognition, behavior, and other interconnected physiological processes that shape everyday life.
Recommended Next Steps
Discussion of observations, educational recommendations, and opportunities for continued learning, additional consultation, or future exploration.
Preparing for the Consultation
Medical records are not required prior to the consultation.
Participants are encouraged to provide:
A brief overview of the survivor's injury
